    LLC lookup

Free Secretary of State business entity search for every US state. Verify an LLC's legal name, status, and registered agent — and know what public records will not show (including ownership).

Major-state Secretary of State LLC lookup links

Google often ranks these official portals for “llc lookup” and “secretary of state llc lookup.” Open the state where the LLC was formed (not only where it operates). Links go to the live government search pages.

Portals change URLs. If a link fails, search “[state] secretary of state business entity search” for the current .gov page.

Type a state name or abbreviation to open that state's official business entity search in a new tab. Same data as the SOS table — all 50 states.

“LLC search,” “LLC company lookup,” and “business entity search” are the same workflow on almost every SOS site: one database covers LLCs, corporations, and often LPs. Enter the exact legal name (including LLC, L.L.C., or Limited Liability Company as filed). You are not searching a federal registry — only that state's filings.

Common reasons to run an LLC lookup: name availability before you form an LLC, vendor due diligence, finding the registered agent for service of process, or checking whether your own entity is still active.

    Sunbiz LLC lookup (Florida)

Florida's Division of Corporations runs Sunbiz corporation search. For a Sunbiz LLC lookup: search by name or by document number, open the detail page for status, registered agent, principal address, and filing history. Florida document numbers for LLCs often start with L. Sunbiz is free and does not require a login for basic public inquiry.

How to read LLC lookup statuses

    StatusWhat it usually means
Active / In good standingFees and required reports are current. The LLC is a valid legal entity in that state.
Delinquent / Not in good standingA report or tax is overdue. The entity may still exist, but compliance risk is rising.
Forfeited / Administratively dissolvedThe state revoked the entity (often for missed annual reports). Liability protection can be weakened until reinstatement.
Voluntarily dissolved / Cancelled / TerminatedOwners filed to end the company. See how to dissolve an LLC.

    LLC number lookup

States assign a unique identifier — document number, file number, entity ID, or control number — when the LLC is formed. For LLC number lookup: use the portal's “search by number” (or equivalent) when you have it from Articles of Organization, a stamped copy, or an annual report. Name search first if you only know the trade name; the number appears on the entity detail page. Numbers are state-specific — a Florida Sunbiz document number will not work on California BizFile.

LLC ownership lookup (usually not public)

An LLC ownership lookup on free SOS sites rarely reveals members. What you can typically see:

    • Registered agent — almost always public (needed for lawsuits and official mail).
    • Organizer / authorized person — often a filing service or attorney, not an owner.
    • Managers — listed on some annual reports (e.g. parts of CA, FL, TX practice); redacted or omitted in privacy states.
    • Members — usually not on the public record. Wyoming, New Mexico, and Delaware are built for anonymity; see anonymous LLC states.

“LLC lookup by owner name” is not a standard free SOS feature. Court discovery, a subpoena to the registered agent, or paid commercial databases are the usual paths. FinCEN's beneficial ownership (BOI) database is not public, and most US-formed entities no longer file BOI after the March 2025 rule change.

Which states show LLC member names?

If you are asking which states show LLC member names on a free SOS LLC lookup, the short answer is: most states do — at least for managers, organizers, or members on annual reports. High-volume public-name states include California, Florida, New York, Texas, and Georgia. Privacy-oriented formation states — Wyoming, New Mexico, and Delaware — generally do not list members on the formation document. Always open the official state portal for the entity you care about; annual-report rules change and foreign qualifications can add public records in the operating state.

If you can't find the LLC

Try dropping the LLC suffix, common misspellings, and any DBA / trade name. Many companies form in Wyoming, Delaware, or New Mexico and operate elsewhere — search those formation states next. Confirm you are not searching a foreign qualification state when the domestic filing lives somewhere else.

    Common LLC lookup mistakes

    • Searching only the trade name

DBAs hide the legal LLC name. Try both the brand and any “doing business as” filings.

    • Ignoring forfeited or dissolved status

You may be dealing with an unauthorized or wound-up entity — liability and contract risk go up.

    • Assuming members are public

Most states never list members. A blank ownership field is normal, not a glitch.

    • Using outdated or third-party-only URLs

Prefer .gov SOS search. If a bookmark breaks, re-find the official business entity search.
